Meet The Disc Dad

Not a touring pro. Just a dad with a very heavy bag.

He's not a pro. He just carries the bag of one.

About three years ago, a regular dad played his first round of disc golf. He'd like you to know it went fine. It did not go fine.

Since then, his bag has grown to a size normally reserved for camping trips. His back has noticed. His shoulder has started filing complaints. And small square boxes keep showing up at the mailbox with a regularity the household has stopped asking about.

Every one of those discs was going to be the one that fixed his drive. None of them did. It turns out the disc was rarely the problem.

So he did what dads eventually do when the new part doesn't fix it: he read the manual. In this case, that meant PDGA rules, manufacturer guides, qualified coaching and actual sports science. Then he cut the jargon and kept what an everyday player can use on Saturday.

That turned into The Front 9: nine books, one for each problem he kept running into. The bag is still too big. There's a book for that, too.
